In every truck one is surrounded by a great deal of professionals, some are nice, some are silent, some are very private and elusive and others are just awesome. It really doesn’t matter much — they all have something to teach us.
I’ve learned to tell some great jokes from some of them, but I’ve also learned to stay quite and let everything unfold when necessary. I’ve learned on how to have a blast while keeping everything working like a Swiss watch. I’ve learned to stand for my crew, my truck and production, as well as having a conversation with the right people about something that didn’t went as planned.
Last week I worked with Ken for the first time — at least in the truck with him. I can only aspire to be as calm and knowledgeable as he is. Calm like a bomb. Readiness at its best. Keeping it simple when the weather and the production was getting a bit complicated.
I was a fly on the wall. Taking notes. Learning. One day I will be presented with a situation where I will need to go into “Ken Mode“ and I will know exactly what to do.
It was a difficult night — it was a good match. Best was the late dinner with him and Linnie, at a Diner somewhere in Queens, laughing and telling stories.
That’s pretty much, as good as we want it to be.
