Trece Ocho was an idea, before it became a physical space. Before it cashed it’s first check. A modus operandi, a promise, to my younger self, to my ideals, to my personal belief that curiosity is endless, yet it will always fall short from reality and its infinite variables and possibilities that greatly surpass my capabilities — that said, it will always be a worthwhile journey.
I no longer design for clients. I don’t hold meetings with customers, I don’t look to be creating and selling something all the time. However my commitment with creativity remains pristine as the first day, only larger than it has ever been. My energy is fully focused on learning as much as possible to be a better tool for the broadcast team, apply creativity towards it and grow as a professional while helping others to do so as well.
However — every once in a while I create “stuff”. Here’s where I post about it.
Not too long ago I was reached to be part of something big. At least big by my standards. Without a doubt my answer was on the positive side. Ready to lean, eager to work. Since them I’ve dabbled with FIFA in several projects, in venue as a broadcast producer.
I’ve enjoyed every task and have experienced a great development in my skills, knowledge and experience. These events are top tier and there are several reasons to it. Nothing less is expected, nothing less is delivered.
Environment matters, excellence is a contagious habit, I remain in a state of wonder, soaking every minute of it.
Bacon Auth started as a personal project back in 2014. A fitness lab to design a solution, which; when applied would develop a limited number of cases from zero to wherever they wanted, using the tools of strength and conditioning. It was a creative process, applied to the human body.
It started as a blog where one Work-Out per day was scheduled. From there it gained some traction as a brand and followed an organic growth of one becoming two and two becoming 4. which brought 4 more and thus we became a passionate and united group seeking to improve daily.
To this day this program has impacted over a 100 athletes and changed many lives.
Hey there! I am JuanCho, a 41 year old Visual Communicator living in sunny and tropical Costa Rica. Trece Ocho has been my lifestyle for a long time. Initially, it was going to be a design studio for clients, but as time went by, it became something a little bit more complex. It’s my creative refuge where I can create without limitations, and from where I can develop my plan to fulfill my life’s mission.
The mission has always been the same; to become a stochastic, well-tuned machine that constantly writes itself. Ready to learn. Eager to create.
To live a life worth living in the pursuit of happiness and leaving a legacy. Hoping to impact the life of every person I can towards goodness, productivity and fulfillment. Be a better person and more human. Escape from being a profession, position or defined by my belongings. To be an idea put into action.
If you identify with these ideals then on this site you should find something that contributes to your process.
I am constantly looking for experimentation, to nourish the graphics and solutions of the projects I work for.
I seek to develop myself in several
Disciplines
Due to my formation in Art and Visual Communication, I seek to explore all the edges of my creativity. That is why I have experimented with techniques from photography to code. I have worked with hospitality projects, even agriculture. I have exhibited work in galleries, and I have designed advertising for various media, all with the same passion and care.
Curiosity fuels creativity and that results in work, regardless of whether it is personal or client work.

El Nevado de Toluca, is definitely one of my favorite places on earth. Thanks to my job I was lucky enough to be there for a couple of February’s in a row. Having long tournaments and staying there enough to have some days off.
My “Days off Personal Policy” is that this day has to be a long, worthwhile one. Make it seem like a weekend. No sleep if possible — if needed; cease the movement time to catch a snooze and recharge, but we may not be back to this place so, let’s get moving.
Seems like yesterday we were briefing the team outside the OB-van. There’s almost no snow on the Andes now. Temperatures have risen from the amazing 2ºC to a very popular 28ºC in a matter of days. Less clothes and more smiles. Less teams and more fans. Less matches, much more intensity.
Controlling the details as much as possible makes everyone else’s life easier, but also it makes life much more beautiful. For instance we all focus to much on seeing the greatest monuments, the best cities to believe that we have fulfill a goal in life and that we, somehow had a great life — however if you focus on the details you can find greatness in everything. In your garden, in any sidewalk, in the spring light that’s hitting a perfect stranger at the restaurant you are just arriving.
